Charles Hughes was born 29 November 1892 at Lifford Castlefin Co
Donegal. Charles served in both the first and second World Wars. We
believe he joined the Royal Army Service Corps with his brother Victor
during the First world War. For the most part he lived at 72 James St,
off the Shankill Road, Belfast. Research at Kew have failed to uncover
Charles First world War records and we must assume they were
destroyed during the Blitz in London. Charles married Letitia French
Waterworth on 9 July 1912. At Holy Trinity Church Belfast. Charles died
on the 24 December 1961 at Harland and Wolff Shipyard, Charles
working there as a Gateman.
Letitia French Waterworth 1893- 1983
Letitia French Waterworth was born on the 14 February 1893 to David Waterworth and Catherine Waterworth nee Smeeth. Letitia was born at 1 Valentine Street Belfast which was situated in the shadow of the world renowned Gallagher Tobacco Factory. On July 9 1912 Letitia Married Charles William Hughes at Holy Trinity Parish Church, Charles was 21 and living at 17 Jaffa St, Belfast and Letitia 18 living at 41 Shannon St Belfast. Present and witnesses were Alfred Stone and Lilly Hughes. Letitia passed away on the 27 March 1983 At 19 Cliftonville Road Belfast. The informant was her son John N Hughes.
